Pirates announce June Football Triple Option/Passing Camp

Students looking to improve their athletic skills or who have an interest in sports and want to learn more are invited to participate in the 2011 Pirate Sports Camps at Independence Community. Camps are scheduled throughout the summer for young athletes in a variety of grades and skill sets. June Camps focus on softball and football.

Coach Rhatigan’s Triple Option and Passing Football Camp is slated for June 7th through the 9th for students in grades 7th through 12th.

“We will have two practices a day,” said Travis Rhatigan, Assistant Pirate Football Coach and Camp Coordinator. “This is a working camp, QB, WR, RB, and TE skills will be emphasized in a controlled environment that will allow the athletes to improve with each session. Each Practice will be broken down into two sessions, with a run game session and a passing session with individual drill work. The second session inside each practice will consistent of all positions working together in the passing game.

He went on to explain that emphasis in the option game will be placed on the inside and outside veer, from under center and from gun. Emphasis in the passing game will be placed on 3-Step Drop, 5 Step Drop, Sprint-Out, & Play-Action Passes.

Each camper will need, proper clothing, cleats, and a towel. QB’s will need to bring their own football. Rooms are available for campers that need housing for Tuesday and Wednesday nights for a minimal fee.

The cost of the camp will be $100 and includes three meals, a t-shirt, and camp insurance. Team rates are available for six or more players at the rate of $75 per player. Dorm housing can be arranged for an additional $20 and includes a dinner meal for Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday, June 8th.
