Lamar James Football Camp set for June 15th

The memory of Lamar James, former Head Football Coach for the Independence Community College Pirates, will be honored this month in the form of a football camp for youth. The Lamar James Memorial Football Camp is a one-day event for young men in the first through eighth grade and will be held on the ICC campus on June 15th.

This one-day camp is designed to provide participants with opportunities to learn, develop, and improve their football skills as well as their confidence in a fun, safe, and enjoyable atmosphere (non-contact). The majority of the schedule will be spent on the field where campers will learn fundamentals and techniques of offensive and defensive football. Students will be instructed in the aspects of teamwork, motivation, flexibility, and speed development in relation to the game.

Regardless of the student’s previous experience or skill level, the Pirate Football Camp offers each athlete the opportunity to learn the fundamental techniques necessary to play and enjoy the game through individualized instruction.

Cost of the camp is $35 and includes lunch and a t-shirt. All proceeds from the event will become part of the trust fund that was established for Coach James’ children following his passing in November of 2009.

For more information about the Lamar James Memorial Football Camp, contact Coach Matt Lott, Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the ICC Pirates, at (620) 332-5493 or email mlott@indycc.edu.
