Scuba Kansas this Spring with ICC

Scuba Diving is back by popular demand this spring at Independence Community College. Whether you’re looking ahead for adventure in exotic locales or fulfilling a thirst for knowledge, Scuba Diving will begin at ICC Tuesday March 29th.

Master Scuba Instructor Grady Weston, of Extreme Sports of Joplin, will be teaching the class on Tuesday nights on ICC’s Main Campus in room AC101 of the Academic Building. The class meets from 6:30-9:30 p.m. through May 12th.

Students of the class will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and enjoyable scuba diving in lakes, bays, and oceans. Students learn principles of diving physics and physiology, selection and maintenance of equipment, and safe diving practices. In addition to pool training, students will participate in five open water scuba dives and upon completion will qualify for SDI Open Water certification

The two-credit hour course training will be divided into two parts. The first three sessions will be held in AC101 of the Academic Building. Enrollment is open to anyone aged 13 and up who is interested in getting open water scuba certification for both fresh and salt water diving. Cost of this course including books, tuition, college fees, instructional supplies, scuba boots, and diving fees is approximately $350. Students may contact the college or enroll the first night of class.

Following successful completion of the course, an open water certification will be held for students at Beaver Lake in Arkansas.
