Cast Gathers for “Community 24-Hour Plays”

Numerous area residents take on the artistic challenge to create original short new plays at the Annual Independence Area Community 24 Hour Plays performing Saturday, January 29, at 8:00 p.m., in the William Inge Theatre at Independence Community College.

The event is sponsored by the William Inge Center for the Arts at Independence Community College. Admission is $5 adults and $2 students.

Community members will participate as actors, directors, playwrights and backstage help. The initial list of anticipated community participants, along with some ICC students, include: Sherri Allen, Caleb Bechtle, Lauren Bell, Rich Browning, Marcia Carvalho, Vanessa Dennis, Michael Fienen, Jim Fischer, Peggy Forsberg, Jill Huggins, Jonna Jarnagin, Callie Kays, Lily Morgan, and Leslie Anne Padilla.

Liz Reynolds, Lavinia Roberts, Deb Sandoval, Keith Shepard, Jordan Shapley, Joel Simwinga, John Lloyd Stafford, Adrienne Thompson, Allen Twichell, Matt Wallis, Asa Walker, Zach Webb, Zach Webb the younger, Dan Williams, and Tony Wood.

The plays are appropriate for ages 13 and older.

The event is conducted in partnership with the 24 Hour Play Company of New York. The Inge Center sponsors two similar events in the fall—the High School 24 Hour Plays and the College 24 Hour Plays. The Community 24 Hour Plays were formed to allow for more local residents to participate in the “24 Hour Plays” experience.

The Inge Center is named for the late William Inge, the Pulitzer Prize (“Picnic”) and Oscar (“Splendor in the Grass”) winning writer who was born and raised in Independence. The Inge Center for the Arts is supported in part by major grants from the Kansas Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, the Hallmark Corporation and the Dramatists Guild of New York.
